The report “Coal vs. Natural Gas Competition: The current state of play – impact on system dispatch,” first presented by Rob DiDona, leader of EVA’s power group, at the 2017 EIA Energy Conference, recently has been featured on THE COAL HUB. The report highlights the recent history of declining natural gas prices,  the importance of analyzing the coal vs. natural gas competition and its impact on power plant dispatch, and presents a near-term outlook utilizing EVA’s “Gas & Coal Price Sensitivity Outlook.”

Launched in February 2017, EVA’s monthly Gas & Coal Price Sensitivity Outlook is a powerful tool to help clients understand the impact of coal vs. natural gas competition in U.S. power markets. The report is based on EVA’s proprietary Scenario Analysis (SCAN) of modeled assumptions which provides high-level insight into a wide array of market-driven outcomes. Using the AURORAxmp model for electric power dispatch, EVA performs a sensitivity analysis using a range of natural gas prices centered around the forward curve to analyze its impact on power sector natural gas and coal burn.
