EIA veteran to lead Energy Ventures Analysis, Inc.’s Natural Gas and Petroleum practice

Michael Schaal joins EVA to lead their natural gas and petroleum consulting to meet the needs of today’s complex markets.

Arlington, Virginia Michael Schaal, former Director of the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Office of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Analysis, is joining Energy Ventures Analysis, Inc. (EVA) to lead the company’s Natural Gas and Petroleum practice.

Over his 30-year career Michael has gained extensive experience in analyzing and modeling natural gas and petroleum markets. At EIA Michael led a number of important studies that helped inform market activity and national policymaking including the effects of natural gas and crude oil production and exports, biofuels mandates, and other topics. Michael also led natural gas and petroleum analysis and forecasting for such well known products as the Annual Energy Outlook, the Short Term Energy Outlook, Natural Gas Weekly Update, and Today in Energy.

Michael will be taking over the practice area that has been successfully headed by Stephen Thumb for the past 26 years. Michael is returning to EVA where he had been a Principal at the firm for over ten years before going to EIA. Michael was also a Senior Engineer with Bechtel.

“Over my 30-year career I’ve developed, managed, and executed national campaigns that have led to major changes in national policy and a better understanding of energy markets.  I’m excited to use this expertise to connect EVA’s great products with the stakeholders who need them to make critical decisions in a rapidly changing environment.”

Seth Schwartz, President of EVA says, “We are pleased to welcome Michael back to EVA. Michael brings excellent experience which is expected to bring immediate value to our clients. I would also like to thank Stephen Thumb for his tremendous contributions to EVA for the past 26 years, and appreciate his willingness to remain with the company for a time to aide in the transition.”
