EVA’s Monthly U.S. Coal Trade Report tracks the flow of U.S. coal across international borders, covering both met and steam coal exports by destination, origin port, supply basin, and price. The report is built on U.S. Census Bureau customs data, which EVA reviews and corrects for classification errors before summarizing into a consistent, analysis-ready format. For the most recent month, EVA supplements official data with export estimates derived from its proprietary in-house vessel tracking database.
Each issue includes:
- Total U.S. coal export volumes by coal type (met and steam), with month-over-month, year-over-year, and YTD comparisons
- Export breakdowns by destination country and region (Europe/Africa, Asia, Other Americas, Canada)
- Export breakdowns by U.S. port (Baltimore, Hampton Roads, Mobile, New Orleans, West Coast, Great Lakes, Texas Gulf, and border crossings)
- Steam coal export volumes by origin supply basin (NAPP, CAPP, ILB, PRB, Rockies)
- Met coal export prices by destination region and port
- Steam coal export prices by port and destination region
- U.S. coal import volumes and prices by origin country and import region, covering both met and steam coal
- Reference international benchmark prices (Richards Bay, Puerto Bolivar, Newcastle FOB) and currency exchange rates
- Historical trend charts going back multiple years for exports, prices, and trade flows by port and destination
