EVA’s Coal Stockpile Outlook is a monthly publication tracking how much coal U.S. power generators are burning, receiving, and holding in inventory. Drawing on confidential data provided directly by major power generating companies, EVA aggregates and summarizes current stockpile conditions and projects coal burn, deliveries, and inventory levels through a rolling 3-year forecast horizon.
Each issue includes:
- Monthly coal burn, receipts, and inventory levels, reported in million tons and days of full-load burn, with month-over-month and year-over-year comparisons
- Current and forecasted stockpile conditions segmented by power market (PJM, MISO, Southeast, SPP, ERCOT, WECC) and coal supply basin (NAPP, CAPP, ILB, PRB, Rockies, Lignite)
- Census region breakdowns and regulated vs. merchant utility comparisons
- Inventory levels benchmarked against historical maximums and 5-year averages
- Distribution of plant-level inventory across days-of-burn categories
- Cumulative coal burn impacts from planned plant retirements by power market and supply basin through a 3-year outlook
- Temperature rank maps and auxiliary charts supporting seasonal demand context
The report is delivered as an interactive Power BI dashboard with an accompanying static PDF and data file. It was previously published as the Coal Stockpile Report.
