Integrated Resources Planning

EVA offers a full range of Integrated Resource Planning services for its utility clients. EVA utilizes the EPIS Aurora electricity dispatch model to analyze the full range of potential future scenarios and derive the lowest resource cost mix and optimal timing for new capacity additions and unit retirements. The model utilizes EVA’s proprietary coal, natural gas, and renewable supply models in combination with its regional demand models to calculate the power and fuel market prices for a given policy scenario. These policy scenarios can be assessed to develop the best strategy to meet future system power needs.

Alternatively, for several clients, EVA provides integrated model inputs for the range of future policy scenarios. These inputs have included:

  • Coal prices for major regional coal qualities (By month, year, scenario)
  • Natural gas commodity prices (By month, year, scenario)
  • Natural gas basis differentials by location (Month, year, scenario)
  • Coal transportation rates by plant (type, year, scenario)
  • Delivered fuel prices (by month or year) for each supply resource
  • Emission allowance market prices (CSAPR Group 1, 2, Annual NOx, seasonal NOx, RGGI, California-Quebec CO2) (by month, year, scenario)
  • Renewable energy credit market values (by state program, type and year)
  • Electricity demand growth by region and consumer type (incorporating EE and DG outlooks)
  • New generating capacity costs and performance
  • Future policy scenarios
  • Renewable resource constraints
  • Announced generating capacity additions/retirements
  • Nuclear relicensing outlook
